Elevation News for Jefferson Parish

In an effort to assist you, we would like to recap where we are currently with the JP elevation program.

Jefferson Parish continually accepts applications from homeowner that meet the Repetitive Loss criteria. As this information is privacy act protected, the best way for a homeowner to find out if they meet that criteria is to contact FEMA at 866-395-7496 to receive a copy of their Flood Loss History.

If a home has flooded 2 or more times in a 10 year period, they should be on the list (keep in mind that May of 1995 and August of 2005 is 10 years and 3 months apart, therefore outside of the exact 10 year period)

If a home meets the RL criteria, they can receive an application from my office by calling 504-736-6540 or emailing JPFloodplain@jeffparish.net.

Unfortunately, the grant funds are limited at this point and homes that turn in complete application packets will be ranked according to various items such as how many times they have flood, year of most recent flood, number of feet below the base flood elevation, as well as a few other factors.

We anticipate FEMA opening yearly grants again next year, but do not have confirmation yet.  These yearly funds are subject to congressional appropriation as well as competitive nationwide, so it is not a guarantee that there will be funds for Jefferson Parish next year.

If you need assistance with any of the information above, or an existing project, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
